Summer Movies 2017

Jun 10, 2017

Summer is upon us, which means the summer movie season is here.  Hollywood rolls out its blockbusters at this time, and the season is often indicative of how prosperous of a movie year it will be when the box-office receipts are tallied. It’s a great time to kick back, relax, and watch a good film. If you’re looking for a list of must-see summer movies 2017, look no further.

June is packed with releases – you’ll find over fifty of them here.

Four of the highly-anticipated mega-marketed movies are must-sees. The DC superhero film Wonder Woman (the first feature film about the Wonder Woman although she’s existed as a character for 75 years) was released on June 2nd.  The Mummy starring Tom Cruise is being billed as a thriller with real scares for its June 9th release.  Transformers: The Last Knight will shake the planet on June 21st.  The third entrant in the much loved Despicable Me series closes out the month with a June 30th drop date.  Wonder Woman and The Mummy both carry a PG-13 rating, while Despicable Me 3 has a PG.  Although Transformers: The Last Knight is not yet rated, it’s anticipated to have a PG-13 just as its predecessor Age of Extinction did.

Although those four are some of the big ticket items, they certainly aren’t the only ones.  Other movies for the little ones include Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie and Cars 3.

There are a slew of films for different tastes and interests.

History, biography and politics are hit upon in Churchill (obviously about Sir Winston). The Reagan Show uses network news and footage from videotapes created by the Reagan administration itself. Megan Leavey is a biopic about a US Marine and her military K-9, and All Eyes On Me tells the story of rapper Tupac Shakur and his life.

Comedies, horrors, thrillers, and dramas are all well represented throughout the month, too.    Rochester has a great selection of movie venues, from small to large, art-house to the Cineplex, and stadium-seating to the comfort of luxury loungers. So, find a film that intrigues you, grab a friend, the family, or a date, and beat the heat while enjoying one of the great summer traditions: movies at the theater!
